Our Origins: A Thoughtful Fusion of Heritage and Skill

Our story is rooted in Chengdu, an ancient hub of Chinese textile mastery where looms have operated for over two thousand years. The founder comes from a family whose forebears once supplied fine textiles to imperial courts—generations of accumulated knowledge in weaving, dyeing, and finishing that have been passed down through the line. Drawing on this ancestral expertise, and inspired by the restraint and functionality of British menswear encountered along historic East-West trade routes, he established Liaun to bring exceptional European flax to the skilled hands that could honour it properly.

We source directly from GOTS-certified farms in France and Belgium, where the flax grows slowly in temperate conditions, using far less water (200–300 mm per hectare) and no pesticides. These exceptional fibres arrive in our Chengdu ateliers, where generations of expertise turn them into garments through gentle, low-waste processes: careful degumming, precise hand-guided cutting, and meticulous stitching. Every piece carries the best of both worlds—European purity in the raw material, Eastern precision in the making—cut in silhouettes that echo British tailoring: easy, versatile, never ostentatious.
